URGENT UPDATE

COVID-19 Vaccination Status and the NHS App

With the softening of pandemic restrictions we are sure that a lot of our patients will be looking forwards to abroad holidays in the near future. This is also likely to require you proving your vaccination status, and we wanted to ensure all our patients have the information they need to be able to do this.

It has recently been announced (more information can be found at www.gov.uk – Demonstrating your COVID-19 vaccination status when travelling abroad) that from 17 May 2021 the NHS App will be the quickest and easiest way to demonstrate your vaccination status, and you are advised to register with the app before booking international travel. Alternatively, if you do not have a smartphone or internet access you are being advised to call 119 and ask for a letter to be posted to you.

Crucially – the guidance is that you should not contact your GP Surgery about your COVID-19 vaccination status. GP practices cannot provide letters showing your COVID-19 vaccination status.

Information about the NHS App – and the links to download it can be found on the nhs.uk website: www.nhs.uk – NHS App.

To help you use the NHS App there is a help and support page: www.nhs.uk – NHS App help and support. Unfortunately our staff will be unable to assist you.

The NHS App is able to verify your identity without the need to contact the practice. There is detailed information about how it does this at www.nhs.uk – NHS login. However – for some patients this can take a few days. I imagine as national uptake of the NHS App increases this delay will get longer, and I therefore urge you to download and verify your identity with the NHS App as soon as possible.

There are other benefits of downloading NHS App, such as:

  • Being able to order your repeat medications, plus changing the chemist that you wish it to be sent to.
  • Viewing your summary medical record, or your more detailed medical record if you request this from us.

We hope this information is useful, and for those of you lucky enough to get a holiday – have a lovely time but don’t forget to check if you’re going somewhere that may need other vaccinations!

The Sidings Team

12/05/2021, Please see out latest newsletter listed in the News section
24/04/2021, We are currently experiencing extremely high volumes of telephone calls to the surgery. Please do not call the surgery regarding Covid vaccination. If you have received your first Covid vaccine at the Sidings Vaccination Hub please rest assured, a member of the team will call you to book you into a clinic when we are notified of vaccine delivery dates. We have a dedicated team working through the patient lists and clinics. Delivery of vaccines is decided by national teams and not by the practice or hub. Thank you for your patience and support.

                                                                 Covid-19 vaccination

We are very pleased and proud to announce that the Boston Primary Care Network have started to deliver the Covid Vaccination.

Our practice will be working in collaboration with the other local Boston practices to deliver the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

The vaccinations are being delivered from a central hub (situated at the Sidings Medical Practice) on behalf of your Practice, and you will need to attend the hub at the Sidings Medical Practice for your vaccine appointment.

The vaccination program is happening in a very ordered way which prioritises those at most risk first. We will be telephoning patients to book them in order.

PLEASE DO NOT CALL YOUR GP PRACTICE TO FIND OUT WHEN YOU WILL BE VACCINATED. WE WILL CALL YOU WHEN IT IS YOUR TURN.

We are using the Department of Health and Social Care guidelines to prioritise vaccination. The vaccines will be delivered in the following order:

1.    all those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers

2.    Residents in a care home for older adults and their carers

3.    all those 75 years of age and over

4.    all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals

5.    all those 65 years of age and over

6.    all individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality

7.    all those 60 years of age and over

8.    all those 55 years of age and over

9.    all those 50 years of age and over

There are a small number of exclusions from this group at present due to certain medical conditions but a process is in place to ensure all over 80’s are offered vaccination before we move onto the next group of patients to vaccinate.

As you may imagine this is a huge task which is taking place at one of the busiest times of the year for the NHS. Our Practice, along with our colleagues in all parts of the health service are committed to ensuring this vaccine is administered to vulnerable patients as soon as possible.

The practice receives 3-4 days’ notice of delivery of vaccines to our local centre (The Sidings Medical Practice) where vaccination will take place. Once the vaccine has been delivered it can only be stored for 3 days so patients are being contacted by NHS staff to book patients for all of the practices.

You do not need to contact the practice to arrange vaccination you will be contacted and we are unable to give you further information about when supplies will arrive or when you can expect vaccination but we know that there are large supplies of this vaccine available and we are working our way through this process as fast as is humanly possible.

As a practice we are proud to be involved in vaccinating patients across all local practices against this deadly virus. We have had amazing support from local volunteers who have given their time to assist patients with this process and have committed practice resources to ensure we are sharing this workload locally on a fair basis.

We thank you for your support and patience in this process. This program of vaccination has been described as a marathon not a sprint and we all want to ensure our loved ones are protected as soon as possible to allow us to return to a more open way of life. Please at this point however don’t contact the Practice asking when it is expected that vaccination will be offered to you or a loved one as we are unable to give a date, please trust us that it will be offered as soon as possible in a fair and transparent manner.

To protect our staff and our patients, the Sidings Medical Practice will now be screening all patients who have a face to face appointment with one of our clinicians.

Patients asking to book either a routine appointment or urgent appointment will be asked to speak to a Clinician via the telephone for an assessment. If possible, issues will be dealt with over the telephone, but if required patients will be seen at the practice. Appointments will be made following the discussion with the clinician.

If you have an appointment booked, a member of the team will be in contact with you.

Please therefore do not attend the surgery if you have not been advised to do so by one of our clinical staff members. If you do staff will advise you to return home and telephone the practice.

Patients are also reminded that currently they are unable to book appointments online.

If you wish to have a conversation with a Clinician or have a query, please contact 01205 362173/ 01205 362556
